A Very Good Boy: Honoring Our Pets

Jon Stewart's recent tribute to his beloved dog, Dipper, moved many to tears and reminded us how every shelter pet is worthy of a full life. Grieving a pet is extraordinarily difficult and can feel isolating. If you're going through it, know you're not alone, and you can make a difference in your pet's memory:

  • Donate your pet's toys, bedding, and unopened food and medicine to your local shelter;

  • Make a monetary donation to an animal rescue charity;

  • Volunteer at an organization;

  • Foster at home;

  • Bring a new rescued companion into your family.

Dipper lived a full life and was beloved by his family. His guardian brought him to meet “actors, authors, Presidents and kings”. Even now that Dipper has passed, he continues to improve the lives of shelter pets as record donations pour into the rescue that saved him. While we mourn with Mr. Stewart and his family, we thank them for sharing Dipper’s story and encouraging adoption.

“My wish for you is one day, you find that dog, that one dog that is just the best.”

-Jon Stewart
