Adopt a Senior Pet in November!

Welcome to November, aka Adopt a Senior Pet Month! These mature pets are in the age group that is least likely to be adopted from shelters and rescues, while those who are adopted often spend longer waiting to find a forever home. This month, we’ll be spotlighting these seasoned sweeties who deserve to find happiness as much as their younger counterparts!

What constitutes a senior dog?

  • Small or toy breeds: 8–11 years

  • Medium-sized breeds: 8–10 years

  • Large breeds: 8–9 years

  • Giant breeds: 6–7 years

What constitutes a senior cat?

  • Cats 11 years old or older are considered seniors.

What advantages are there to adopting a senior pet?

  • Housebroken: Many senior pets have already had basic training and are familiar with household routines.

  • Well-behaved: Senior pets are often calmer and more laidback than young pets.

  • Loyal: Older pets are often just as affectionate and playful as younger pets and will bond with their people just as easily!

  • Fewer needs: Senior pets tend to need less supervision, training, and exercise than younger pets.

Consider adding a senior pet to your household! You can also help local pets by fostering, sponsoring their shelter costs or adoption fees, and sharing their posts on social media for maximum exposure. It takes a village to bring these deserving seniors their second chance!
